14: The Last Gonzo Joy Ride to the End of the Galaxy

Episode 14

Testicleeze was florking. Damitol could see that his tentacles had begun receding. His aura wasn’t visible at all, and she saw hers fading rapidly. She pulled him far from the water and then gave herself over to her own transformation.

The morning sun was still low in the sky when she awakened after florking. The vast number of aromas held by the grass surprised her. She raised her head and inhaled, hearing an unusual whiffing that she realized came from her. She recognized fragrances from the forest, but surely it was too far away for her to smell it.

And yet … she smelled the swimming creatures much more clearly than she had yesterday. Several types of flowers grew around her, and by shifting her head a little she was able to attach each smell to the specific type of flower.

She started to ask Testicleeze if he could distinguish so many new aromas, but she was alone. She began to panic. Had he rolled back into the water? Had he florked into something that lived in the water? Was he all right?

Epi14-Dogs-WEBShe lifted her head and howled for him. “Testicleeze. Where are you?”

She heard huffing from the woods. Something moved through the dead bushes at the edge of the trees. A shaggy-haired quadruped broke into the clearing and trotted toward her. She shivered in fright. Was this thing dangerous?

It moved with a four-legged grace that she immediately admired. It’s hair formed lovely black and white markings, including a white streak that came down the center of its face atop a snout that ended with a black fleshy spot. She sniffed the air and found a familiar aroma.

The beast opened its mouth, but before she could bolt away, it called out.

“Damitol. I thought you’d never wake up.”

She thought he was the most handsome creature she’d ever seen. He trotted to her and rubbed his snout against hers. How forbicious, she thought, I have a snout, too.

She examined herself. She had short, black hair and a stouter body than Testicleeze now wore. She lifted her front leg and rubbed her snout. She could tell that it was not as pointy as his.

“Are we the same? Did we flork into different species?”

Testicleeze shook his head. “I think we’re just different individuals. You’re really pretty. I love the muscles on your … shoulders?”

They spent a few minutes staring, and then they found that they liked to sniff one another’s scents. After quite some time, they sat back on their haunches.

“I guess we’d better get home and find out what we are,” she said. “I’ve never seen anyone that looks like either of us.”

“Uh, Damitol. I can’t find either of our utility belts. I don’t know where the gloxflit is.”

She looked to the lake. “We need to look in there. I had to pull you out of the lake last night.”

They splashed into the water and searched. It seemed deeper than it had last night, because these bodies were shorter. They spent a long time splashing and running up and down the shoreline howling.

Finally, they came back together and rubbed noses.

“I think we’re stuck here,” he said.

“Wherever here is.”
